Willard Asylum

The Willard Asylum for the Chronic Insane operated in New York from the 1800s until it closed in 1995. The building is historically listed, meaning it can't be torn down, and the decaying interior looks like something out of a horror movie.



Mirny Diamond Mine
The Mirny Diamond Mine in Siberia is one of the world's largest open pit mines, opened by the Soviet Union under Stalin. It ended operation in 2011, and since then has been abandoned. Going down into the massive pit while it was in operation would be nerve-wracking enough. Today, it would be downright terrifying.



Pripyat, Ukraine

Bumper cars remain abandoned in the empty town of Pripyat, nearby the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. The entire city has stood vacant since the 1986 nuclear disaster. Residents left in such a hurry that many areas remain preserved in the way that they were left on the day of the incident. The crumbling city is bone-chillingly eerie.



Sanzhi UFO Houses

The Sanzhi UFO Houses in Thailand were built in 1978 as an attempt to create a futuristic tourist resort. The project was abandoned in 1980, however, and these pod-like houses now look more like a post-apocalyptic vision of the future than their designers intended.



Six Flags Jazzland

Six Flags Jazzland near New Orleans suffered major damage during Hurricane Katrina and has stood abandoned ever since. The nearly ten years that it's been empty show how quickly a formerly-pristine place can fall into ruin.



Bannerman Castle

Bannerman Castle was built in the style of a Gilded Age castle on a small island about 50 miles north of New York City around the turn of the century. It was once used as a military surplus warehouse but is now totally empty. Its crumbling walls would be a very creepy place to camp anywhere near to overnight.



Chateau Miranda - Celles, Belgium

The castle was originally built by French aristocrats fleeing the revolution. During and after World War II, Miranda Castle was used as an orphanage. It was abandoned in 1980, with the family refusing to allow authorities to care for the structure. Because of its past, this haunting castle remains a favourite amongst ghost hunters.

Chateau Miranda in Celles, Belgium was once a grand home for nobility, but is now a ghostly shell of its former grandeur.



Hashima Island

Hashima Island, located off the coast of Nagasaki, Japan, was once used as a base for undersea coal mining in the 1890s through 1970s, reaching a population of more than 5,000 around 1959. When Japan switched away from coal toward oil energy, the plant was closed in 1978. Now, the island's industrial and apartment buildings are freakishly empty.



City Hall Station, New York

The beautiful City Hall Station was built as a stop in the New York City Subway System in 1904, but closed in 1949 because the station wasn't very busy and could no longer accommodate larger subway cars. Now, it's empty and eerie.



S.S. America

The S.S. America was a troop ship during WWII and a passenger ship until the 1970s. It was being towed to Thailand to be put into use as a hotel ship when it had to be abandoned in a storm. Now, the ship sits wrecked on the Canary Islands, and would be both amazing and dangerous to explore.



Shicheng, China

The ancient Chinese city of Shicheng was around 1,300 years old when it was flooded more than 50 years ago in order to build a hydro-electric dam. Talk about a creepy place to go diving.

É uma possibilidade

O único que dá medo mesmo é a Mirny Diamond Mine, compara com o tamanho dos prédios na cidade do lado. É grande demais a parada.
